How to Land #08 – Contraction

Contract HARD!

When you land, you're trying to do two things. First, absorb all of the downward force into the muscles, without anything going into the joints or causing too much strain on the tendons.

Secondly, you're trying to maintain control and balance on the landing. That means that you need to keep the contraction of your muscles to stop any loose flexing of any joints, which in turn moves the centre of gravity and makes you more unstable.

By contracting as hard as you can and NOT BOUNCING BACK UP FROM THE LANDING (which is a redirection of the downward force not being fully absorbed, but rather redirected back up again) you will minimise any movement of the spine and hips which control the balance.
